Our Great Ideas Through Great Books studies are all multi-credit courses, given that they are designed to be an honors level study. Based on the idea that students ought to be given the opportunity to participate in the “Great Conversation” by reading Great Books, this course will allow much reading, plenty of reflection on ideas encountered, and instruction and practice in the art of written expression. The material is integrated so that students will be exposed to all the essential skills found in top notch secondary English and Worldview/ Philosophy courses. If the student is a good reader, expresses himself well in written work, and is mature and inquisitive, this is a good choice for a Classical and Christian educational experience. The course still involves assignments and essays evaluated in the standard way, but the special feature is the opportunity for sharing and discussing the Great Ideas within an online class atmosphere. Students should be prepared to keep on schedule with the readings and to participate regularly with their postings and responses. Evaluation: A total of 6 assignments, 5 essays and 8 blog postings.
